Moro Panabas kris kalis sundang barong A large sword Two handed chopper www.swordsantiqueweapons.com

A good large and rare Panabas type that is seldom seen.

This example measures 90cms long and carries a heavy blade that is 50.5cms long and 1cm thick at the base. The spine narrows slightly in wide through to the curve and for the last 14cms, carries what could almost be called a back edge. It is through this false edge and the clipped tip that 17 small holes are found, an aspect often seen on Panabas and Kampilan, sometimes filled with brass, suassa or gold.
Despite the surface wear that would grade up very easily with minor effort, a clear contrasting hardened edge can be seen as can a multitude of laminations throughout the blade faces, something a traditional etch would enhance greatly.
This large war sword has been fortunate enough to be preserved extremely well and retains 99% of its original rattan binding to the hilt, binding that shows a beautiful, rich and old world patina.

A good and rare large fighting sword from the feared Moro warriors of the former Moro provinces/regions of Zamboanga, Lanao, Cotabato, Davao, and Jolo.
