A good rare Thai military or naval hanger, dirk, mid to later 20th century.

This example measures 40cms long in its sheath. Out it is 37cms long with a 26cms long blade.
Based upon the 19th century Japanese Naval dirks and with European influence this dagger was formed. The hilt contains an EU style back strap arrangement that is integral with the Elephant headed pommel. Its curved trunk is a loop to retain a military, naval or police lanyard.
The guard is loosely based on the Japanese types with the push button scabbard release so very popular with most of the worlds military forces from the early 20th century.
The blade is single edged with a clipped back edge and a deep single fuller to each side. The blade retains 98% of its original bright polish.
The sheath appears to have been recovered and is bound in thick brass fittings.

A fine military dirk from Thailand made under German contract.
