A fine Albcete dagger of rare form.

This small protection dagger or sometimes romantically called a "prostitutes or gamblers" dagger, measures 27cms long in its sheath. Out is measures 26cms long and has a blade length of 15.5cms.
The hilt is a bone core which forms the bulbous central grip. It is inlaid with twisted wire and pierced brass panels and capped with a pierced and engraved pommel cap and collar. The guard/quillon block is a single section of faceted and turned brass that ends in acorn style tips.
The blade is single edged with a long double edged tip with both edges being sharp. The body of the blade is pierced with the large central piercing being inlaid with a filed brass panel. The steel surfaces are also engraved throughout, mostly around each of the piercings.
Found with this rare knife is its original sheath. The sheath is timber which retains a good amount of its original velvet covering and both the suspension fitting and base which are engraved brass.

A fine quality and interesting 19th century dagger from Albacete.
