A good rare Midsized Vietnamese Kiem with ivory hilt.
This unusually sized straight sword measures 76cms long in its scabbard, just under 71cms out and has a blade length of 52cms.
One of the most unusual aspects of this particular Vietnamese sword is the scabbard. Typically the type is three silver or auspicious alloy sections over a timber core. This example is covered entirely in auspicious alloy that sits over a timber core. Both suspension fittings are highlighted with copper bands as are the collar sections each side of the ivory grip.
This auspicious alloy fittings remain in as found condition with the upper section slightly loose on the timber. I have on purpose left this as is so the new owner has the option of keeping it as found or stripping the scabbard down for polishing of the fittings and cleaning of the timber. If a quality foaming silver cleanser is applied to these fittings, the new owner will be rewarded with wonderful luminous gold bronze coloured fittings with copper highlights.
As noted above the grip is ivory and without fault.
The blade, like the fittings has been left untouched. Due to the sword's size, the blade is rather broad for a Kiem. It is of a simple elliptical cross section and in need of a clean.
A rare sword with unusual features and size that will grade up very well. Priced well for restoration.
