A fine and rare Penghulu Keris.

This Bugis Penghulu remains in as found untouched condition. With the exception on the pendokok or hilt cup, this example is complete.
It is dressed in fine rich red timbers with the sampir being amboyna burl, a most desirable sampir material. The batang or stem also appears to be made from amboyna but not burl. The butnut or base is most unusual in that it is almost translucent like turtle shell but is certainly timber.
The hilt or hulu is carved from a most striking timber with the grains offering a most impressive contrast.
The blade is also demure is proportions. It displays a very fine multi layered pamor, clear bevelled edges and fine proportions.

A fine and rare Keris, perhaps for a young chief or a preferred sized for sitting during important events or discussions.
