A outstanding example of a Prussian Dragon sword for Chinese Officer, Boxer Rebellion era.
This example of the Prussian 1889 model is 99.5cms in the scabbard, just under 96cms out and has a blade length of just under 81cms.
These very rare sword type have a rampant Chinese dragon on the guard rather than a German eagle or state emblem that is normally seen.
It has been recorded that German eye witnesses to the Boxer Rebellion report finding such swords in Chinese positions at Taku and in Chinese arsenals. The hilt remains in perfect original condition with multiple silver and brass wire binding within the recesses of shark skin covered grip.
The spine of the blade is thick and the blade is full in profile.
A very rare sword type in very fine, used issued condition right down to the thick original leather spacer at the forte. The leather finger ring within the guard has been cut away, likely broken during active service.
The sword is in as found very fine condition.
