A good antique Somali shield with fine decorative motifs and tooled surfaces.

This Gashan shield measures 34.5cms across its tooled hide face.

The rear face of this example displays black and red inked motifs around the raised central handle, with its handle retaining a rarely seen, worn but near complete fabrics wrapping.

An fine example that is complete and remains in good condition for its age.

This shield type is becoming much harder to find in any condition
