A good complete example of the Moro Kampilan.
This circa 1900 Moro Kampilan measures 105cms long in its scabbard, 103cms long out, and has a blade length of just over 75cms long.
The sword has a very good forward balanced weight, and the blade remains extremely sharp.
The hilt is very well carved, with nice crisp details to all carved surfaces. The timber is free from loss, damage, or age cracks.
The grip retains original grip bindings and a consistent patina throughout the entire hilt.
The faces of the pommel display Philippine minted US One Peso coins, dated 1904.
The blade as noted, remains very sharp. Whilst the blade remains in as found, lightly stained and unpolished condition,
the quality and skills of Moro smiths can be seen within clear hardened edges and longitudinal patter welding.
The blade is cased within its original timber, two-part sheath with partial losses to the edges.
The scabbard's outer surfaces are heavily darkened with age and use.
A good functional example that would grade up very well with little effort. Kampilan that retain their scabbard are seldom seen, and one that is from a period considered to be the last of the true warrior caste.
