A good original antique sword, Thailand, circa 1900.
In its scabbard, this sword measures 90cms long in its scabbard. Out it is 85.5cms long and has a blade length of 54.5cms.
The sword remains in exceptional original condition throughout. The rattan bindings all remain intact, and the silver fittings have only very minor bruising from age and use. The original suspension baldric is present but quite worn as seen in the images. The significance of the green colour is unknown as most we have encountered are red in colour.
The blade is a very sharp and exceptionally well balanced. The base of the spine is 1cm thick and narrows acutely for the first third of its length. The very desirable raised diamond section form of the spine continues from base to the upturned tip.
As noted above, the edge remains sharp and is sharpened from the hilt to the tip.
There is very little flex to the blade. It exhibits all the qualities of a fine robust fighting blade, and is free from edge nicks or damage, with only minor age blemishes to the faces which would polish out if desired.
A fine and very well priced example. A sword of both minor status and a functional fighting type.
