A good old Keris Sumbawa with a fine carved hulu and well-defined blade profile.

In its dress, this keris measures 41.5cms tall, is 41cms long out and has a blade length of 33cms.

The fine and deeply patinated hulu is elaborately carved throughout all surfaces and sits within a very old turned brass pendokok.
The dress displays fine grains within the timber surfaces and is complete. The sampir has in later life been opened to house the blade deeper within, a rather common occurrence by early collectors who did not fully understand the raised positioning of the keris gonjo within the sampir.

The blade has been overcleaned at some point in time and would benefit from a citric etch. The base features are very bold and are characteristic of both the Bugis Sumbawa and Bugis Sulawesi keris.

A fine old example that would grade up with little effort.
