A fine example of a Javanese Pedang Lurus, being of a very rare and old form.

This Javanese sword measures 69cms long in its scabbard.
Out of its scabbard it is 64cms long and carries a blade that is 5.5cms wide at the balde and 52cms long.
What sets this rare example apart from most Pedang seen in today's market is its age and presence of the unique silver pommel with human hair top knot and high quality blade.
The large silver pommel is expertly chased in various depths oth relief to create a very fine rendition of a Hindu Deity, likely Rakshasa. The grip is a well selected black horn and it has a silver cross guard, now loose.
The blade is razor sharp and in exceptional condition for its age. The pamor is very high contrast and perfect throughout.
The scabbard is leather over timber with decorative silver fittings tip and bottom, fitting sof the same general appearance of those seen In Zonneveld's Weapons of the Indonesian Archipelago that was collected in the mid 19th century.

A very rare museum quality example, 1850 or earlier.
