A massive English horsemans backsword with basket hilt.
Overall this untouched well preserved example measures a massive 112cms long with a blade that is 97cms long and 12mm thick in the spine.
The blade is sturdy with a large deep single fuller that stops 18cms from the tip. The back edge runs for approx 20cms from the tip.
The forged iron basket hilt remains in very good condition. There are three feint marks to the guard, one inside and two outside, maybe once clear armoury stamps?
The grip is wire bound and shows a very nice age patina as does the whole sword.
A surprisingly very well balanced and capable sword of unusually large proportions. This sword is very tight with no movement to any parts.
Overall a beautiful Englishmans heavy cavalry sword from the mid to late 18th century.
