A very fine and rare Daghestani sabre with an earlier Persian blade.
This Central Asian service sabre measures 98cms long in its scabbard. Out it is 96cms long with a blade length of 85cms from the tip to the centre of the langet.
The swords hilt and scabbard fittings are the famous Kubachi style of repousse silver with Niello and gilded highlights.
The swords pommel is that of a sharp toothed mystical beast which retains a red cloth insert within its fanged jaws.
The beasts neck widens throughout the grip area to an Ottoman style cross guard.
The broad Persian made blade is a very fine work of art with very precise fullering throughout the blade and very crisp angles and edges.
The blade is marked with the famous Asadullah Lion and three Koranic verses with cartouches.
The areas around the lion and script so remains of gilt as does the flat of the spine at the base and the back edge of the slightly raises Yelman.
The blade is actually of a very subtle Kilij form and is of a very high standard Wootz steel.
The fittings to the scabbard remain in very good condition despite the leather being worn and a small slit to the curve being from active service.
A fine and rare Central Asian sabre.
