A fine old fighting sword from the Philippines.

This well made Kampilan from the Maranao people remains in very good condition throughout with only minor loss to the rattan binding on the grip and a small amount of hair. The carved and pierced Okir designs to the hilt are very fine, deep and display a warm well handled patina. The large open mouthed pommel is without fault and where most Kampilan have a single coin or token to one face only, this example has a silver coin attached to each face.
To each side of the carved guard is a thick double staple iron guard.
The blade is a finely forged example with clear longitudinal laminations throughout its surfaces. Its edge is sharp, the spine flat with three incised lines running across at the forte and good distal taper is seen through to the tip and the cutting edge.
It is 97cms long and has a blade length just under 72cms.

A fine and well balanced sword from the Moro tribes of Maranao.
