A good old Sikin Panjang of rank and status.

Overall in its scabbard, this sword measures 72.5cms long in its scabbard, and has a blade length of 53cms long.

Getting harder to find in today’s market, these status swords with defining features like the carved and incised throat sections remain desirable addition to Aceh weapons collections.

The hulu Peusangan as seen in the images has an age crack running the length of the grip, an all too common occurrence in these sword types. The horn is quite an unusual colour where most are black, perhaps chosen from an auspicious sacrifice.

The large ivory throat cross section is of a seldom seen over sized type, carved in deep relief, with the incisions inked to highlight the decorative motifs.
The dark timber stem is encased by silver bands and like the hulu, it is without decoration or inked motifs which are predominant in the region.
The blade is a great example of the pattern welded blades of Aceh. Its edge is sharp, and it remains a functional weapons.

There is an inventory number to the end of the sheath. It is unknown if this is a museum reference or a larger collection reference. A good example of the famous Sikin Panjang.
