A very nice large well made Afar Gile.
This beautiful example measures 53cms overall in the sheath, 46cms out with a broad blade 33.5cms long.
The hilt is timber with small losses where the blade joins and the hilt retains a very nice brass pommel.
The sheath is a fine leather construction with beautiful mellow age patina. The reverse retains fur on the hide and is stitched with leather. There are four bands to the front, two of twisted iron and two of brass. The original heavy faceted weight to the scabbard end if present.
The blade is forged from a file which is sometimes seen as file steel it of very fine quality.
A very nice African knife with a very pleasing patina.
