A very fine and complete English P1803 pattern Officers sabre by Read of Portsmouth.
The fine Napoleonic era sabre measures 90cms long in the scabbard. Out of the scabbard it is 89cms long with a blade length of 77cms.
The guard and scabbard fittings show remains of gilt highlights with all aspects in very fine condition.
The Lion head pommel retains is lanyard ring, all of its original fish skin grip and wire bindings.
The basked guard is free from or damage and retains its original felt spacer. The knuckle bow displays the Royal Cypher.
The blade retains most of its blue and gilt surfaces and are in very good condition. The bright steel ends shows original bright steel polish under various staining and a small area of pitting on the right face only.
The leather scabbard is in excellent condition throughout. All stitching is intact, the leather is supple and free from breaks or splits although it has shrunk slightly from age but this does not hinder the storing of the sword.
The throat fitting bearing the name, "Read, Sword Cutler, Portsmouth.
